Badam - Sterculia foetida

Badam is not only an absolute eye-catcher in aquariums and terrariums, it also offers great hiding places. This special decoration for terrariums and aquariums is a purely natural product. The badam, botanically known as Sterculia foetida, originates from India. Due to its slightly porous surface, it is also suitable for planting. The tannins and humic substances it contains enrich the water, which has a positive effect on all aquatic life. The Badam pod takes a few days to sink in the aquarium. This can be prevented by placing a small stone in it, which can be removed after 3-5 days. The pods have a diameter of about 7-15 cm and, as can be seen in the pictures, are sometimes more and sometimes less open. They are therefore also suitable for nano tanks or for terrariums as caves or shelters. As this is a purely natural product, the appearance and size can of course vary slightly.

We recommend washing each wood or root thoroughly before inserting and soaking for 2-4 days if necessary. This will help them to sink faster and prevent unwanted floating. Wood and roots are natural products and in many cases release tiny suspended particles, such as the useful humic substances that can slightly discolor the water. This effect diminishes over time. Pre-soaking or boiling can reduce this effect.
